Biography
Anita grew up in Missouri and Texas with a Filipina mom, a Hoosier (Indiana) father and two younger brothers. She spent more than a decade of her career honored to serve as youth minister for three parishes and as a campus minister at Loyola Academy in Wilmette, Ill. Anita spent a year living and working in a girls orphanage as a Salesian Lay Missioner in Montero, Bolivia. She most recently lived in Mombasa, Kenya for seven years with her family — two daughters and husband — as a Maryknoll Lay Missioner, where she supported the educational needs of children and families affected by HIV/AIDS, served as a church catechist and taught self-awareness at a young adult vocational school. She speaks Swahili and Spanish.
Anita has a love for cooking, baking, traveling, hiking and playing her guitar. She enjoys involvement in Gesu Catholic Church and the local community in areas of faith, justice, the environment, gardening and peacemaking. Her favorite scripture verse is “Act justly, love tenderly, and walk humble with your God.” (Micah 6)
