Biography
Dr. Abdel Latif earned her Ph.D. in Chemistry from Virginia Tech in 2016. She is a physical organic chemist and she studies electron transfer mechanisms for common biological molecules including carboxylates, flavinium salts, and redox active complexes. Some of her work applies a wide array of electrochemical methods for investigating organometallics as redox centers and their interactions with biomolecules. She works on evaluating the kinetics and thermodynamic for these mechanistic pathways and to better understand the natural mechanisms in biological systems. Also, she investigates alternative organic syntheses for small molecules and applies a series of analytical instrumentations for analysis of products’ mixtures.
As an educator, she is involved in educational research through implementing teaching pedagogies. Her efforts are dedicated to establishing a more equitable environment in teaching and research for her students. She has received a certificate in Effective Teaching Practices in Higher Education from ACUE sponsored by the Council on Higher Education.
