Tate, Nutrena H.

Nutrena H. Tate

Associate Professor, McAuley School of Nursing, College of Health Professions.  

Nutrena Tate's funded and published research focuses on eliminating health inequities in childhood obesity in populations of color as well as health disparities research in general. She is a certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner in Primary Care and has practiced in inpatient, outpatient, school based and community clinics. As a faculty member, she taught undergraduate and graduate nursing courses focused on pediatrics, health assessment, research, community nursing, and leadership.  Additionally, Tate has experience teaching leadership and human resources courses in the Health Services Administration program. Her education includes a Bachelor of Science, Master of Science in Parent Child Nursing, and Postdoctoral degrees from the University of Michigan – Ann Arbor.  She earned her Ph.D. in Nursing Research from Wayne State University and a Master’s in Business Administration from Michigan State University.

Since 1991, Tate has served within various local, regional, and national leadership roles such as, but not limited to, the presiding officer, committee, and board member for nonprofit and professional organizations, including Teen HYPE, Chi Eta Phi Sorority, Incorporated, National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners (NAPNAP), Commission for Collegiate Education (CCNE), Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Minerva Educational Development Foundation, and The Links, Inc. She has also been accepted or invited to participate in several spiritual and diversity leadership institutes, such as American Association of Colleges of Nursing, National League for Nursing (NLN), Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities, Ignatian Colleagues Program, and University of Wisconsin – Madison. Additionally, Tate has served as a moderator, panelist or keynote presenter during nearly 100 local, regional, national, and international speaking engagements on such topics as implicit bias, crucial conversations, and leadership development.

Her consulting efforts focus on governance frameworks, parliamentary procedure, strategic planning, grant writing, business development, fundraising, and political campaigning for governmental, academic, professional and non-profit enterprises. She has received several national, regional, and local awards for her exemplary service and leadership within practice, teaching and community settings. She rejoined the University in 2017.

Taylor, Charles

Charles Taylor

Clinical Assistant Professor, Division of Clinical Dentistry, Clinic Lead, is the course director of the Clinical Responsibilities series of courses for the pre-doctoral dental students and a clinical group leader. He has served as a clinical and pre-clinical instructor in various capacities. After many years in private practice, he joined the University of Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ School of Dentistry as a faculty member in 2000. He maintains a private practice outside the dental school and sees patients in the University of Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ’s Faculty Practice. Dr. Taylor is a 1989 graduate of the University of Michigan School of Dentistry.

Teitel, Andrea J.

Andrea J. Teitel

Affiliate Clinical Coordinator and Adjunct Faculty, Nurse Anesthesia, teaches regional anesthesia, ultrasound techniques and advanced principles of nurse anesthesia. She has a B.S.N. from Michigan State University and an M.S. from Wayne State University. She joined the faculty in 2007.

Thanik, Daman

Daman Thanik

Clinical Professor, Division of Graduate Education, teaches a clinical orthodontic segment modeled after his own practice treatment philosophy, in addition to lecturing in several dental and postgraduate orthodontic courses. He is a senior clinician and a American Board of Orthodontics’ Diplomate. Dr. Thanik´s life-long learning career in dentistry spans 60 years. In the period between 1952-1967, he completed two D.D.S. degrees-one in India and one in the Canada, two master's-one in basic science and one in oral biology, a certificate in orthodontics, a one year clinical dental Fellowship (pediatric dentistry), and a two year internship in the oral surgery department at Genesee Hospital at the University of Rochester. He belongs to many orthodontic organizations in the U.S. and Canada, and has received several awards for his work in orthodontics. Dr. Thanik joined the University as a part-time instructor in 1971 and became a full time faculty member in 1995.

Thiel O.P., Linda

Linda Thiel O.P.

Associate Professor, College of Health Professions, McAuley School of Nursing, teaches nursing at the Grand Rapids campus. She earned a A.D.N. from Delta College and her B.S.N., M.S.N., and F.N.P. from Purdue University-Northwest and a Ph.D. from The Catholic University of America. Her area of expertise is evidence-based research, evidence-based nursing practice, and spirituality.  She joined the University of Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ full time in 2002.

Thomas, Roberta L.

Roberta L. Thomas

Associate Professor, McAuley School of Nursing, teaches nursing at the Grand Rapids campus. She earned her Ph.D. from Wayne State University. She has extensive background in medical-surgical nursing and oncology. She is also a nurse practitioner in psychiatric mental health.  She joined the University of Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ in 2000 as the first program chairperson for the Grand Rapids campus.

Thomson, Joshua J.

Joshua J. Thomson

Assistant Professor, Division of Integrated Biomedical Sciences, teaches Infectious Diseases for Dental Hygiene and Microbiology and Infectious Diseases II for dental students. Thomson received his Bachelor’s of Science from the University of Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ Department of Biology in 2009. He then went to Wayne State University School of Medicine where he received his Ph.D. in Immunology and Microbiology. His dissertation research, under the guidance of Dr. Jeffrey Withey, was focused on transcription regulation of virulence genes in the pathogenic bacterium Vibrio cholerae in response to environmental stimuli. His postdoctoral and continued research focuses on the mechanisms of serum resistance in Yersinia pestis, the causative agent of plague. His additional research focus is to discover, identify, and characterize novel bacteriophages that specifically target cariogenic bacteria for potential use as therapeutics. Thomson is involved in coordination of summer undergraduate research at the Dental School. Thomson joined Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ Dental in 2014, starting as full-time faculty in April 2017.

Thompson-Sloan, Tamika

Tamika Thompson

Clinical Associate Professor, Division of Clinical Essentials and Simulation, Division of Clinical Dentistry, Division of Graduate Education, serves as a course director for Clinical Periodontics for the DS3 and DS4 students and is also course director for Periodontal Therapy I and II with the DS 2 and dental hygiene students. She also works with the Graduate Periodontics Program. Dr. Thompson is interested in community service and participates in a number of community related activities. She is also interested in research, and future publications. She proudly serves veterans as a periodontist at the John D. Dingell VAMC. She holds a D.D.S, M.S. and a Certificate of Periodontics from University of Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ. She joined University of Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ as a faculty member after completing her periodontal residency in 2012.

Tjiptowidjojo, Fransiskus

Fransiskus Tjiptowidjojo

Clinical Assistant Professor, teaches prosthodontics, including fixed and removable prosthodontics, implant-prosthodontics and CAD/CAM dentistry to pre-doctoral dental students. In addition, he is also involved as a guest lecturer in didactic courses. His responsibilities also include the integration of digital dental technology. He has special interest in interdisciplinary treatment approach especially in Periodontics-Prosthodontics. He also serves as an ad hoc reviewer for the Journal of Prosthodontics and Singapore Dental Journal. He lectures nationally and internationally on Prosthodontics.

He earned a Doctor of Dental Surgery from Airlangga University, Surabaya, Indonesia. He completed a Certificate in Advanced Aesthetic Dentistry from New York University. He earned a Postdoctoral Master of Science Degree and Certificate Programs in Prosthodontics from Columbia University. He completed a Certificate in Implant Periodontal Prosthodontics Fellowship from University of Maryland. He also earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery from University of Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ.

He is a Board-Certified Prosthodontist both in USA and Canada. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Prosthodontics, a Fellow of the American College of Prosthodontists, and a Fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada. Prof. Tjiptowidjojo joined the university in 2015.

Toopchi, Shabnam

Shabnam Toopchi

Clinical Assistant Professor,  teaches oral habits, tooth wear, and local anesthetics in Pediatric Dentistry to dental students, Oral Habits and Tooth Wear to dental hygiene students and Non-Pharmacological and Advanced Behavioral Management, Treatment Planning, Trauma, Radiology, Restorative Dentistry, and Pulp Therapy in Pediatric Dentistry to accelerated students. Prof. Toopchi holds a Doctor of Dental Surgery from Tehran Azad University and a certificate in pediatric dentistry from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. She joined the university in 2018.

Torres, Patricia

Patricia Torres

Patricia Torres, Assistant Professor of Marketing, holds a Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality Management from Universidade Estacio de Sa (UNESA) in Brazil, a post-graduate certificate in Marketing from Instituto Brasileiro de Mercado de Capitais (IBMEC), also in Brazil, and a Ph.D. in Marketing from Florida International University.  She has substantial experience in the financial services industry, having held positions with Wells Fargo Bank, Helm Bank USA, and Banco do Brasil Americas in Miami.  Her research focuses on consumer behavior, financial decision making, and product branding.  Dr. Torres joined Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ in 2021.

Tracy-Bee, Mary

Mary Tracy-Bee

Professor of Biology, teaches human anatomy to students in the Physician Assistant and Nurse Anesthesia programs. Her research focuses on human anatomical variations and anatomical education. Bee has received numerous teaching awards including the Theima award for best anatomy professor in North America from the Human Anatomy and Physiology Society. She has published numerous books, book chapters, and journal articles. She is an active member of American Association for Anatomy, American Association of Clinical Anatomy, and Human Anatomy and Physiology Society. Tracy-Bee received her B.S. from Mercy College of Detroit and her M.S. and Ph.D. from Wayne State University. She joined the University in 1999.

Trudeau, Christopher R.

Christopher R. Trudeau

Associate Professor of Law, joined the University in 2022 as a Visiting Associate Professor from University of Arkansas, Little Rock, William H. Bowen School of Law where he was an Associate Professor of Law. He was promoted to Associate Professor of Law in 2023. Professor Trudeau has also taught at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences where he was an Associate Professor of Medical Humanities & Bioethics. Before joining the faculty at University of Arkansas, he taught for a decade at Western Michigan University Thomas M. Cooley Law School. Professor Trudeau previously practiced labor and employment law and complex business litigation. He developed a pro bono legal program to assist patrons at the Christo Rey Community Center in Lansing, MI. Trudeau received a B.A. in Criminal Justice from Michigan State University and a J.D. from Western Michigan University-Thomas M. Cooley Law School.

Turner, Jill A.

Jill A. Turner

Associate Librarian, Reference, School of Dentistry Library, provides reference services, instruction in database searching and research skills instruction. Her collection development areas include nurse anesthesiology, nursing, doctor of nursing practice, physician assistant, and health systems management. Turner holds a B.S. degree in Nursing from the University of Pittsburgh and a Master's of Library and Information Science from Wayne State University. She joined the University in 2010.
