Mentoring (What to expect)
We offer 1 on 1 Professional Mentoring which will go over the following topics:
- Time management
- Crushing Academic Goals
- Study Skills
- Staying Motivated
- Work Life Balance
- Overall University Resources
Things to Note:
- Mentoring is 1 on 1 and at the student's pace and desired frequency.
- During the first meeting, we go over a time management sheet and use it to get better organized. We also discuss the importance of a planner and how to proactively tackle your week. Subsequent meetings will be regular check ins for all classes to assess where the student might need further assistance.
- We are very hands on when it comes to supporting students. We may help students by reviewing class syllabi, blackboard information, study guides, contacting professors, and by connecting students with tutors and other university resources.
- Mentoring is designed to help the student create a plan to succeed academically. We use their schedule to create a plan that will actually work for the student and adjust as necessary.
- We strive to support the whole student and will often ask about self-care practices and how the student is doing overall.
- Meeting with a College Life Coach is like having an accountability partner. We cheer you on for the good things and support you when it gets rough. Don’t hesitate to reach out!
How should you as the student show up to meetings?
- Be authentic - Don’t feel like you have to have it all together. Just be yourself and we will create a plan together.
- Be open/Honest - Being transparent about what is going on in your classes will enable your Professional Mentor to create the best plan for you.
- If possible, bring your planner, and other academic materials as we will visit their contents during meetings.
