• November 04: Election watch party to be held in Shiple Hall, Nov. 5

  Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ is hosting an election watch party Tuesday, Nov. 5 from 8-10 p.m. in the Mercy Gathering Place inside of Shiple Hall. The watch party is being hosted by University Ministry, Student Life, Athletics and the Political Science Department.

  Stop in for pizza, community, election bingo with prizes and most importantly civic engagement!

  

• November 04: November is National Career Development month

  Students are invited to join the Center for Career & Professional Development (CCPD) and the National Career Development Association as we celebrate National Career Development month! This year’s theme is Creating My Career Path: Embracing Change in My Journey.

  CCPD encourages students to explore their futures and embrace the changes that will come. There will be several events offered throughout the month of November that will assist students in taking ownership of their career development, set career goals and learn about new opportunities.

  First-generation students are the first in their families to attend college. We know our first-generation students are strong, resilient individuals who are determined to succeed in their endeavors here at Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ.

  On the eve of National First-Generation College Student Day, the Office of Student Life invites all first-generation students to stop by the Lower Level of the Student Union on Thursday, Nov. 7 from 12:45-2 p.m. during dead hour as we celebrate the tough cookies that you are. Treat yourself to a cookie and share your story on why being a first-generation student is important to you!

  All are welcome to join the University community for some fall fun with a festival Wednesday, Nov. 6 on the McNichols Campus!

  Sign up to practice interviewing skills with professional recruiters through the Center for Career and Professional Development. Time slots available between 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and practice interviews take place in Reno Hall Room 143.

  Cheer for Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ’s women’s basketball team at their 11 a.m. game in Calihan Hall against the University of Michigan-Dearborn.

  Afterwards, enjoy the fall weather with games, food, music and community in the Tennis Pavilion and Practice Fields from 1-5 p.m. Show your skills in pumpkin bowling, bobbing for apples or axe throwing inflatables. Then warm up by bonfires with your friends while you make s’mores or enjoy your own caramel apple creation!

  Season 3, Episode 4 of What’s the Tea with Ministry is live!

  Discover how the Titan Equity Nourish Network (TENN) at Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ is transforming Detroit’s food landscape through community collaboration and student-led initiatives. What if students could spearhead a movement that reshapes a community’s relationship with food?

  Hear from Chelsea Manning, the passionate program manager, and Serena Yousif, an inspiring student leader, as they share how TENN’s mission to address food justice and sustainability is making a tangible impact in Detroit. From battling food insecurity to overcoming challenges like transportation and the lack of affordable grocery stores, TENN’s collaborative efforts with local partners are paving the way for a more food-just city.

  Manning and Yousif open up about their personal journeys from being unaware of food insecurity issues to becoming fervent advocates for change. This episode highlights the transformative power of food as an essential human need and a unifying force within communities. TENN’s community-centered approach is brought to life with heartwarming stories of garden picnics and produce deliveries, emphasizing the importance of community input and engagement in shaping effective solutions. The richness of shared experiences underscores the vital role of collaboration and the profound impact of providing access to healthy food.

  The podcast, where University Ministry and others in the Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ community spill the tea on living out the Jesuit and Mercy mission, was created to expand mission-centered content available to the University community. It is an opportunity to engage in conversations, reflections and interviews with students, staff, faculty, community partners and more.

• November 04: Adia J. Palmer Memorial Scholarship now accepting applications

  UDM students who have worked at the Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ Libraries or Varsity News or volunteered with the Titan Equity Nourish Network (TENN) for at least one year — and plan to continue with these activities — may apply for the Adia J. Palmer Memorial Scholarship. Students pursuing studies in Performing Arts or Communications are also encouraged to apply. Applications are being accepted now through Tuesday, Nov. 26.

  The scholarship is intended to help cover the costs of textbooks and lab fees at the University. The Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ Libraries, Varsity News and TENN launched this scholarship in 2023 to honor Palmer’s legacy of creativity, inspiration and elevation, as well as her desire to spread joy, peace and love to make the world a better place.

  While the number and dollar amount of scholarships to be awarded is yet to be determined, awardees will be notified by early December 2024, and scholarships may be used as early as the Winter 2025 semester.
