Student Groups
- LGBTQIA+ students and their friends and allies are welcome to join , a student organization focused on making everyone feel welcome and respected.
- is a political and social organization that serves the needs of the LGBTQ+ community at Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ Law. OutLaws advocates for the inclusion of LGBTQ+ perspectives within the School of Law, and works with allies with the school and beyond to end discrimination in all forms.
Employee Benefits
Employees who are married or in same-sex domestic partnerships are eligible for health, tuition remission and other benefits at Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ. Detailed policy information is available on the Human Resources Benefits page.
Preferred name policy
If you would prefer to use a name other than your legal first name, you may designate a preferred first name, which will populate in class rosters, on Blackboard and in other places where your name appears at the University.
To designate a preferred first name, log in to , then click on Personal Profile. Select Personal Information, then click the Edit button in the upper right corner to add your name in the Preferred First Name field. You may also designate your pronouns and gender identification in the same section.
To change your first name in your University email, write to its@udmercy.edu with the subject line “Preferred First Name.”
To change your name on transcripts and diplomas, a legal name change is required. Contact the Office of the Registrar to initiate a name change on these documents.
Gender Inclusive Restrooms
McNichols Campus
On the McNichols Campus, all-gender restrooms are available in the

- Shiple Hall, lower level
- Student Fitness Center
Corktown Campus
At the Corktown Campus, all-gender restrooms are available on every floor.
Riverfront Campus
At the Riverfront Campus, all-gender restrooms are available on each floor and in the library, and signs affirm the right of all users to access the single-sex restrooms that correspond to their identified gender.
All-gender restrooms are also available at the Law Clinic.
Novi Campus
At Novi Campus, all-gender restrooms are available on the first and second floor.University Resources

Pregnant and Parenting Resources
Pregnant and parenting students are protected by Title IX. The University’s Pregnant and Parenting Students Policy offers specific guidance for students about the steps persons who are pregnant, parenting or experiencing pregnancy-related conditions should take.
