    Admissions Requirements

Admission to the MHSA program is granted to applicants whose academic, professional, and personal qualifications indicate potential for success in a graduate study.

    Admission requirements include:

    1. A baccalaureate or advanced degree from a regionally-accredited college or university with a grade point average (GPA) of B (3.0). This admission requirement may also be satisfied by a 3.0 in the most recent 60 credits of the applicant's baccalaureate record. The quality of academic work taken beyond the bachelor's degree, either as post-baccalaureate (non-graduate credit) courses, or graduate credit courses, can be included with the most recent 60 credits to determine the student's academic average. In both cases the applicant must satisfactorily meet all additional admission requirements for the program. Conditional admission may be granted to students whose GPA is less than 3.0. Where conditional admission is recommended, the student is required to complete a list of courses specified by the program chair with a grade of B or better in each of the courses. These courses may not be repeated.
    2. A minimum one year of work or volunteer experience in a health care setting is recommended.
    3. Three letters of recommendation from professional and academic acquaintances, including one from a direct supervisor.
    4. Official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended.
    5. A well-formulated career plan articulated in a brief essay; and
    6. A personal interview with the Chair of the Health Services Administration program.

    Grading Policies

Academic standards are set to ensure that the Master’s degree in Health Services Administration signifies that student work meets or exceeds academic excellence and industry standards.  In order to remain in good academic standing and to graduate from the program, a student must maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 (B) and must earn a B or better in all classes. Students who fail to meet these academic standards will be placed on probation. Students on probation will be expected to return to good academic standing within the next six credit hours of course work by earning a B or better in each of these classes. Students who earn less than a B in any course must repeat the course. Failure to do so will result in dismissal from the program unless the student is able to demonstrate unusual or extraordinary circumstances that are responsible for his/her performance.

Students who are terminated from their internship site at the request of their onsite preceptor for any reason will receive a grade of "F" for the internship course and will be required to repeat the internship course.  The previous hours earned onsite will not count towards completion of the required internship hours.

*HSA 5010 is the only prerequisite course in the MHSA curriculum.  Students must take and pass HSA 5010 with a grade of B or better in order to enroll in HSA 5020.  If the student fails to meet this prerequisite requirement, then they will not be able to enroll in HSA 5020 until the course grade has been satisfied.

The plan of work for the MHSA degree may take up to five or more semesters, based on the schedule of course offerings. The courses are subject to changes in the schedule.
