Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ's Language and Cultural Training Department offers instruction at the undergraduate level in many world languages (see language course offerings) and English as a Second Language. As of the fall 2018 semester, certificates are available in the following languages: Aramaic, Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Russian and Spanish.*
*Individuals who began certificates in other languages not listed above will be able to complete their certificate program(s) no later than May 2021.

Language Course Offerings on the McNichols Campus
The following languages are offered for three academic credits: Aramaic, Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Russian and Spanish. Languages not listed above may be available. Please contact the Language and Cultural Training Department to discuss the availability of your language of interest.
Courses required for the certificate:
- 1100 Introductory I (3 credits)
- 1110 Introductory II (3 credits)
- 1120 Introductory III (3 credits)
- 1150 Introductory Business (3 credits)
- 2100 Intermediate I (3 credits) OR 2110 Intermediate II (3 credits)
For additional study, the following courses may be available, but are not part of the certificate program and require permission of the department director:
- 2120 Intermediate III (3 credits)
- 2150 Intermediate Business (3 credits)
- 3100 Advanced I (3 credits)
- 3110 Advanced II (3 credits)
- 3120 Advanced III (3 credits)
- 3150 Advanced Business (3 credits)

Certificate in Language Studies
University of Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ offers a Certificate in Language Studies. Certificates are available in the following languages: Aramaic, Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Russian and Spanish.
Students qualify for the certificate after completing four semesters (12 credits) of language study per target language with a grade of C or better. Students may demonstrate proficiency via placement exam beyond the introductory 1100 level and may earn 3, 6 or 9 credits toward the certificate, based on exam results.
Students enrolled in qualified corporate or dual enrolled contexts may be able to earn a certificate. Please contact the Language and Cultural Training Department for more information on eligibility.

Language Training
Since 1982, University of Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ's Language & Cultural Training Program has been Metro Detroit's premier source for language training. We provide customized language programs for University of Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ students and a variety of professionals:
- Corporate & legal executives
- Health care providers
- Governmental personnel
- Educators
Programs are offered in many world languages: Aramaic, Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Russian and Spanish, as well as English as a Second Language including Accent Reduction and American Business English. Coursework may available for academic credit. Please contact the Language and Cultural Training Department for more information on eligibility.
Cultural Seminars
Host a full-day, half-day or two-hour mini-seminar at your workplace covering aspects of culture that are essential for business operations or travel abroad.Select criteria from our business menu and customize a program that is tailored to meet your company's objectives, as well as your personal and professional needs. The following cultural-training programs are available:
