Graduate Next Steps

Congratulations on becoming a new University of Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ graduate student. The following four steps are offered to help make your transition easier:

    Step 1: File the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

    We recommend every graduate student file the FAFSA after October 1. By submitting the FAFSA, you may become eligible for grants and low interest rate student loans. The quickest most convenient way to file is . Ó£ÌÒÊÓƵ’s school code is 002323.

    Step 2: Meet with your academic advisor

    As a new graduate student, you must meet with your academic advisor for first-semester advising and registration. It will only be in future, successive semesters that you'll have an ability to register online. You are free to contact your advisor at any time, but please allow the University a week to process your information. So, take this into consideration when you contact your advisor.

    Step 3: Register for classes

    Once you have met with your academic advisor you will register for classes online using . My Portal is your online access to conducting University business. From updating personal information, checking course schedules, making payments and registering for class, it's all at your fingertips. You will receive your My Portal login information through the mail just after your acceptance.

    Step 4: Orientation

    Graduate on-campus orientations are conducted by program. Graduate students will be contacted by their individual programs with information regarding orientation. In the meantime, please visit our Virtual Orientation for graduate students.  The Virtual Orientation will help you get acquainted with campus and the resources available to you as a Detroit Titan!

    Step 5: Obtain your parking permit and student I.D.

    Once registered for classes, visit the Parking & ID Center to obtain your parking permit and student I.D. Below, you will find links that you may find useful in your journey to getting into your first semester of classes:
